It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
