The Princess of Wales's Traditional Festive Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The large audience will listen to a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
